Welcome to SGPGIMS

Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences has been established under the State Legislature Act in 1983 and is named after Sanjay Gandhi.It was created by the state of Uttar Pradesh as a centre of excellence for providing medical care, education and research of the highest order. The institute is situated in a 550 acres (2.2 square kilometres) campus at Raebareli Road, 15 km from the main city. Lucknow is located about 500km east of New Delhi and is the capital of Uttar Pradesh. Lucknow is famous for its Nawabi culture, Mughlai cuisine and intricate chikan work, a form of fine embroidery.

The Institute provides postgraduate training to medical and nonmedical professionals. The training programmes lead to D.M., M.Ch., M.D., Ph.D., postdoctoral fellowships, postdoctoral certificate Programmes in various disciplines. In addition, it offers senior residency training programmes. B.Sc. Nursing course and BSc / MSc paramedical technology Programmes in allied sciences are offered by the College of Medical Technology.The Institute is an autonomous body and awards degrees which are recognised by the Medical Council of India. The Institute functions as a State University and is member of the Association of Indian Universities and is recognised by University Grants Commission.

  • 28/07/2025: WORLD HEAD AND NECK CANCER DAY

    The Department of Head and Neck Surgery organized an Awareness programme and a CME on the occasion of World Head and Neck Cancer Day under the leadership of Dr Amit Kesri.

    Director, SGPGIMS Padmashri Dr. Dhiman emphasized that the number of patients suffering from head and neck cancer in our country is about 30 to 40 percent. He laid emphasis on the multidisciplinary team approach towards management of Head and Neck Cancers.

  • 26 & 27th July 2025: 2 Day Master Class on Viral Hepatitis

    To mark the World Hepatitis Day, Dept. of Hepatology SGPGIMS, organized a two-day master class for postgraduates’ medical students and practitioner on Viral Hepatitis.

    Padmashri Dr. R K Dhiman, the director of the institute was the person behind starting the national viral hepatitis control program in the country. On this occasion, Dr Dhiman stressed on the need of screening for viral hepatitis and early treatment and said that viral hepatitis could only be eliminated by 2030 if we could train our young doctors and practicing physicians about the importance of early diagnosis.

  • 26/07/2025: Department of CVTS celebrated its 38th Foundation Day

    The Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, SGPGI celebrated its 38th Foundation Day. A CME was conducted to mark the occasion which focused on the theme "Bridging Gaps & Building Solutions in Heart Failure Management".

    The program started with the customary lamp lighting and invocation to Ma Saraswati. Director SGPGI Prof. R K Dhiman welcomed the distinguished guests. The discussions focused on the evolution and current status of surgical treatment for heart failure in India, with a special emphasis on the challenges faced in states like UP where it is still not started.

  • 17 & 21st July 2025: Two day Capacity Building Workshop by Department of Hospital Administration

    Recognizing the pivotal role of Empanelled Healthcare Providers (EHCPs) in operationalizing the massive schemes of Ayushman Bharat with Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojna, State Agency for Comprehensive Health and Integrated Services (SACHIS), under the leadership of Smt. Archana Verma, IAS, Chief Executive Officer, SACHIS, and Dr. Pooja Yadav, IAS, Additional CEO, SACHIS, organized a comprehensive two-day capacity-building workshop in collaboration with the Department of Hospital Administration, SGPGIMS.
